- Vista Del Rey Vineyards - Wines with a Purpose & Place -
Vista Del Rey - "View of the King" in Spanish - was the name chosen by Dave King for the eight-acre dry-farmed Zinfandel vineyard he purchased in 1994. Situated on a hillside just northwest of Paso Robles, the vines are over 30 years old as Vista Del Rey prepares for its 15th vintage. King calls this original planting the Hacienda (Home) vineyard, while newer block planted in 1996-97 provides the source for Barbera. Celebrating our 15th anniversary in 2011, Vista Del Rey is a small, hands-on, "mom & pop" winery, specializing in hospitality and offering a selection of gourmet food items and wine accessories. Older vintages of the Kings' wines are often available. And friends of wildlife will find plenty of interest here too. (Ask Carol about the bats!)
- Our Humble Facility - Upon arriving at VDRV, you will probably be greeted by our extremely friendly dog, Daisy, equally friendly cat-who-thinks-he's-a-dog, Cobb, who will both kindly escort you to our humble, rustic facility. Inside, besides tasting our current releases, be sure to take in well-chosen products including homegrown dry-farmed walnuts and pistachios, gourmet condiments, private label chocolate goodies and jellies, and carefully selected local wine country items. Be sure to ask Carol about her bird nest collection. Finally, bring a picnic lunch and enjoy our small picnic area and it's panoramic view.
- Private Label Goodies and More - Zinfully Delicious! Our Private Label Goodies now include zinfandel wine jelly, chocolate sauce, raspberry/pear william topping, zinfandel ollalaberry vinaigrette, and pinot blanc salad dressing and mustard, all from Carol Hall's Hot Pepper Jelly Co. These products are all natural. Recent additions include Smokey Jim's finely crafted wine barrel products and vintage BBQ smoking and grilling chips and 36° Olive Oils. Not to be overlooked, is our carefully selected line of BBQ sauces, bread dips and olive products. Bon Appetite!
- Food and User Friendly Wines - Wine is food and is best when paired with food! At Vista Del Rey Vineyards, we produce fruit forward, food and user friendly wines. Aging in carefully selected French and American oak barrels is accomplished to add subtle flavor components and character, and to round out the wine. Care is given in preserving the bright, inviting forward fruit characteristics of our wines. Each estate vintage reflects the unique seasonal variations that exist from year to year. Great wines are made in the vineyard. We work with what our vineyards give us, rather than force the wine in a given direction.
